How to Get the Gun in MM2 of The Locust

Only the Sheriff spawns with a gun. Everyone else waits for a body. This page is the Innocent-to-Hero route that actually ends Locust rounds.

Updated:

When the Sheriff dies, the gun is a physical pickup. The Locust wants it denied. You want it now. Treat the drop like an objective in a 1 vs All, not like a random loot sparkle. If you still do not know role tells, skim Sheriff and Innocent first.

Spotting a drop

  • A gun model on the floor after a scream, not a coin stack.
  • Chat calling “sheriff down” — believe it only if you saw the body.
  • Locust suddenly rotating back to a hallway they already cleared.
  • ESP users will already be there. If you play clean, look with third person.

Pathing to the gun

Do not run the same line the Sheriff died on. The Locust is camping that line. Loop a cube rim or a second doorway, crouch the last meters, and pick up while already facing the likely re-entry. If two Innocents contest, let the closer one take it and peel. A double stack on the pickup is a double grab. Map loops: maps and hide spots.

The Hero shot

You get one honest shot mentally even if the pre-alpha gun has more. Confirm the Locust mesh: tendrils, glow eyes, extra height. Do not shoot the panicked Innocent with a black hoodie. Third person until the morph fills the frame, then flick. If you miss, drop-peek a corner. A missed Hero is still better than a team-kill that hands the round away.

What Locust will do to stop you

Expect a fake leave and a re-grab on the pickup. Voice bait (“I am sheriff, grab it”) is common. If the voice is coming from the tall mesh, it is not the Sheriff. The monster guide in How to Play Locust is the checklist you are playing against. Scripts with auto-grab exist on the scripts page; they also get people banned, so this guide assumes a clean pickup.

After you have the gun

  1. Hold a doorway, do not chase into a cube volume.
  2. Let Innocents body-block only if they understand they are bait.
  3. If Locust hides, push with a teammate, not solo.
  4. If you die, the gun drops again. Call the new spot.

New players who keep dying on the way to the drop should reread How to Survive before they try to be the Hero every round. Living to the timer is a valid town win.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the searches this nest actually gets.

Can the Locust pick up the gun?

Contest the drop anyway. Even if the morph cannot fire it, standing on the model delays Heroes.

Does the gun glow through walls?

Not for clean clients. Use third person and the death location.

What if I shoot an Innocent?

You probably just handed Locust the round. Play Sheriff rules: confirm the mesh.
